Background
Humi is an HR platform used by Canadian companies to manage payroll, benefits, and employee data, information that is essential for preparing SR&ED claims. To reduce the time and cost of filing, Humi set out to build a product that automatically pulls required R&D activities from tracking tools and organizes them into a complete claim structure. The goal was to eliminate manual coordination between payroll systems, task trackers, and claim worksheets by centralizing everything into one guided experience. This new platform needed to feel seamless, accurate, and accessible for teams preparing claims throughout the year.
Challenges
The product needed to integrate with tools like Linear and Jira to automatically import projects, stories, and tasks tied to R&D work. Mapping tasks to SR&ED categories required a clear interface that helped users classify activities and track progress across multiple claims. The platform also needed to calculate claim value by matching R&D work with associated development costs and presenting the results through a clean, visual dashboard. Coordinating imported data, categorization workflows, and cost calculations in a predictable, easy-to-use interface was key to ensuring reliability and user trust.
Outcome
The final platform provides companies with a structured, automated approach to preparing SR&ED claims. Teams can connect their tracking tools, categorize tasks, visualize claim value, and compile all supporting evidence without manual work.
